| The Newport News Citizen's Guide to Services is a resource developed by the Office of Intergovernmental and Community Relations to help residents and businesses make direct contact with City employees and local agency representatives about services. The publication is arranged in a user-friendly order by topics and uses cross-references to link similar issues. While the focus of the publication is on city services, other important public and private services are also included for your convenience. The information and phone numbers provided in this publication are effective August 2001. All area codes are 757 unless otherwise noted. | The Newport News Fire Department serves a population of 180,150 citizens. There currently are nine fire stations, the construction of our tenth station, Fire Station #5 in Lee Hall, is expected to be completed by Summer 2003. We responded to over 19,000 emergency medical calls and 12,800 fire calls during FY2002. Our department was ranked as the 74th busiest fire department in America in 2001. |
